The Taliban have banned the growing of opium poppies in Afghanistan and as a result production has reduced by around 95%. Synthetic opioids are laboratory-produced drugs that mimic the effects of natural opioids (such as opium or heroin) but can be much more deadly. With the emergence of synthetic opioids in the drugs supply what more needs to be done by to prevent a worsening drugs death crisis?
