A deeper understanding with New Leaf Recovery

New Leaf

New Leaf Recovery is a unique, independent treatment centre based in South Birmingham, offering a safe, compassionate environment for people to address their issues with addiction.

New Leaf Recovery is fully registered – and assessed as good in all areas – by the CQC, and we prioritise individual physical, emotional and psychological needs. Our support team all have healthcare-based qualifications and lived experience of addiction issues themselves, some having completed treatment here at New Leaf as part of their recovery journey.

THE DETOX
Qualified and experienced medical and nursing staff will carry out an initial assessment of detoxification requirements and you will be closely involved in developing a tangible plan to ensure a safe and comfortable regime. This will be prescribed and implemented over an agreed and realistic timeframe. Emotional and physical support is paramount, provided around the clock as required, and regularly reviewed with the medical team. Nutrition, hydration and appropriate exercise also play a part, and regular contact with family is assured.

THE PROGRAMME
When embarking on the journey of recovery from addiction, acceptance is often identified as a key element. It is referenced throughout the literature and regularly mentioned at fellowship meetings. It is, though, a challenge to accept something we don’t fully understand. On this basis, we have centred our treatment programme at New Leaf Recovery on helping people to gain a better, deeper understanding of the illness of addiction and how it pertains to them.

Many themes and issues are common among people experiencing addiction, regardless of substance or background. Our group therapy provides a beneficial platform to discuss and identify the impact of denial, resentment, emotional pain, low self-esteem and self-worth and powerlessness. Each person is allocated a named support worker and a recovery worker to guide them through our intensive programme. We use tailored assignment and literature resources and regular one-to-one sessions, along with a strong and varied group therapy platform to enable people to build a foundation for their personal recovery programme. Structure and routine, healthy eating and sleeping patterns and meeting our self-care needs are crucial in rebalancing our physical and psychological wellbeing.

A 12-step approach is encouraged at New Leaf, and we will introduce you to the core principles involved, as well as providing the opportunity to attend regular fellowship meetings. We are aware however that there are other pathways to recovery and will support individuals to explore and determine the most suitable for them.

ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES
Clients are encouraged to see an accredited counsellor regularly during their stay to discuss any comorbid or contributing issues, such as trauma, and to develop coping strategies to take forward. Emotional freedom therapy, reiki, meditation and art therapy are a regular part of the programme.

A FAMILY ILLNESS
We know the effects of addiction go beyond us as individuals, and having a supporting family, friends and loved ones is integral to rebuilding relationships, understanding the disease and developing hope. We offer unlimited guidance and support including mediation to help with these issues.

New Leaf Recovery ProjectAFTERCARE
Once a part of the New Leaf family, ongoing support is not time limited and we remain in contact with many former residents over many years. We also offer a package of six aftercare days where people can return for a day in treatment to further enhance their foundation, sit with their support worker and continue their counselling sessions.
