9:00 am: Alcohol use in the cost-of-living crisis

June 22, 2023

Thu, 22 Jun 2023
09:00am - 10:00am
Online

Join the Institute of Alcohol Studies and Director of Public Health for Gateshead, Alice Wiseman, to hear from Dr Philip Broadbent (Specialty Registrar in Public Health Medicine) and Holly Wood (With You) on how the cost-of-living crisis is impacting public health, particularly in relation to levels of alcohol harm.

Dr Philip Broadbent will present findings from his research into the public health implications of the cost-of-living crisis and discuss what policy approaches are needed to protect health and avoid exacerbating health inequalities.

Holly Wood will then discuss the results from research commissioned by alcohol and mental health charity With You on how alcohol consumption habits have changed due to the rising cost-of-living, putting UK adults at greater risk of alcohol dependence.

This event is for public health professionals, researchers, healthcare workers, civil servants, NGOs, health agencies etc. If you or your organisation receives funding from the alcohol industry (alcohol producers, retailers, trade associations, Social Aspect Public Relations Organisations (SAPROs), & Business-Interest NGOs) please do not attend.

June 27, 2023

Tue 27 June 2023
Parliament

Join us as we take action to change our failed drug laws

We will be taking action in Parliament on 27th June, 2023 to show the public and politicians that we stand for better drug laws. To achieve change, we need you there.

This day is for people who know that drug use is a health issue, not a criminal one. If you’re ready to take action and support a global movement calling for reform of our failed drug laws, then please join us for our 7th annual lobby.

The mass lobby is part of the Support Don’t Punish Global Day of Action which is recognised each year in over 100 countries as individuals come together to call for drug policies that are centred around health and human rights.
