Drug & Alcohol Advocacy in Barking & Dagenham

PAST is the Peer Advice and Support Team based in Barking and Dagenham. This team is staffed by current and ex service users who have direct experience of drug and/or alcohol treatment. All advocates have undergone extensive training around substance related issues and are supported by The Alliance team and managed by Maddy Wilson (of The Alliance)

Having problems or unhappy with your drug and/or alcohol treatment in Barking and Dagenham? Help is on hand because we are here to listen and find solutions - not to judge.

What we may be able to help with:

• Drug treatment advice including - dosing, discharge, complaints, medication queries
• Alcohol treatment advice
• Questions regarding access to drug or alcohol treatment
• Users Rights and much more.....TRY US!

What we are unable to help with:

• Benefit queries
• Housing advice
• General legal advice
• Counselling
• Debt advice
• Actual prescribing of medication

Advocacy is a right

So remember, everyone has the right to an advocate. This is recognized by the National Treatment Agency who oversee the way services work and treatment is provided across the country. It is universally believed that people who get an advocate involved if they have a problem tend to get better outcomes from treatment.

Drug and alcohol treatment is something that you should have a say in, and you should play a part in decision making and influence the overall outcomes. It is all about you and your life, don’t let it be something that happens to you, be a part of it and don’t be too proud to ask for help and advice if it will make things easier and better for you.
